Innovation

Innovation is
in our DNA.

Innovation is at the heart of what we do, deeply embedded in our DNA. We encourage our employees to ‘Dare to innovate’, ‘Never stop trying’ and ‘Accepting failure as learning’. This way, strong ideas, with guidance from our innovation coordinator, are given the opportunity to become reality.

Innovation for sustainability

Green Straddle Carrier Program

Thanks to the Green Straddle Carrier Program, we have launched the world's first hybrid hydrogen straddle carrier at our Noordzee Terminal in collaboration with our partner CMB.Tech. It uses state-of-the-art H2 dual fuel combustion engine technology, running on a mix of hydrogen and diesel.

At MPET, we are testing 100% electric straddle carriers with advanced battery technology. They can operate continuously at peak power for over four hours and fully recharge in 90 minutes.

Our innovators

Behind every “lightbulb moment” is an untold story of trials and challenges, fueled by commitment and perseverance. At PSA, we encourage our colleagues to collaborate, freely share ideas, take risks and view failures as valuable learning opportunities in the pursuit of innovative breakthroughs.

InnovatiON Awards

To celebrate this creativity and problem-solving spirit, we reward the Kua Hong Pak Innovation Awards (KHPIA) annually to our innovators worldwide. Formerly known as the Group Innovation Awards, the award was renamed to honor Mr. Kua Hong Pak, one of the longest-serving board members of PSA International.

Since 2013, the KHPIA Awards have showcased the commitment of our employees to constantly seek out innovative solutions. From tackling port and supply chain challenges to enhancing everyday workflows, the diversity of projects testifies to the power of innovation within our company.

ATS Awards: for the innovators of the future

Every year, ATS presents two awards to young technical talent. Final-year students at Thomas More Campus De Nayer (Bachelor's in Electromechanics) and GTI Beveren (Ship and Port Technology) have the opportunity to win the ATS Award for the best bachelor's thesis or final project. The participants present their project to a jury of ATS employees, who assess them on innovation, presentation, and technical insight.
